New DVD: Ladies'
Styling Volume 1 - from Bev

Nail those spins, funk up your
footwork, look and feel fabulous on the dance floor.
This DVD
shows you the secrets and tips to fabulous Ladies' Styling.
Suitable for
all levels from Beginner to Advanced - you will all learn from this
fabulous teaching.
Buy this DVD
for all your girl-friends - an ideal gift for any dance addict!
Bev, the Jive Diva, has been dancing and teaching Modern Jive for 15
years. She collaborates and teaches with many independent jive
companies, including Revolution Dance, Jive Addiction and Rock Bottoms.
Bev is taking the UK by storm with her extremely popular Ladies'
Styling Workshops.
This DVD shows you the secrets and tips to fabulous Ladies' Styling.
Discover the secret to great posture and poise; vamp and strut across
the dance floor with confidence and attitude; and learn some great
styling for "spare arm syndrome". Learn how to spin without getting
dizzy, including spotting and cross jump turns, and then practise your
body isolations.
Bev teaches
you how to incorporate each new styling into your beginner moves, to
help you revamp and re-energise your dancing.
Bev's passion for dance lies in the psychology entwined with partner
dancing: the non-verbal, ménage à trois relationship
between the dancers, the music and the motion. Her background in Dance
Movement Therapy gives her teaching an explorative approach into
non-verbal movement and intention.
Remember, "A man's job: make the woman FEEL good, a woman's job: make
the man LOOK good!"

Weekenders, Holidays
& Competitions
Just added to the list at modernjive.com:
DesertJive:
Mon 26 Oct to Sun 1 Nov 2009, Dubai
From the CerocArabia Team:
CerocArabia has decided to stage its first International Dance Event -
DesertJive.
Going ahead will depend on the response from dancers in the UK and we
only have 6 months to get it together, but we've decided to at go for
it and see what the interest is.
We have sourced a Flight/Hotel deal with a UK agent and can offer a
price just GBP 690 per person, based on 4 people sharing a self
catering apartment, very much as they do at Camber (although Dubai of
course will be less basic.) Dance workshops (the likes of Ceroc, Swing,
Ballroom), food and other activities will incur extra charges but this
is a great deal!
Flights: Virgin Atlantic from London departing on the evening of Sun 25
Oct arriving in Dubai on the morning of Mon 26 Oct 2009. Departure back
to London will be on Mon 2 Nov.
The unusual Monday arrival and Departure days ensures the cheapest
possible flights. Other combinations are available at additional cost
if you wish to arrive back in the UK say Sunday night.
Hotel: Golden Sands Serviced Apartments, Bur Dubai
Using a similar program to Medfest Spain, it will consist of Daily
workshops for around 2 hours, with rest of the time to yourselves. Plus
most evenings we'll have fun classes and of course freestyle around
town, with a Halloween Ball on Sat 31 October. We will of course
organise a program of optional pay as you go/in advance holiday
activities.
We are looking to do something on a small scale to start with. Our
target is for at least 20 UK Dancers to come over. We will of course
incorporate Dubai and Abu Dhabi based dancers into the event, plus we
have some interest from Australia. So we're looking for at least 100
for the whole event.
We require a Deposit of GBP 100 to secure a place. To guarantee the
prices we've sourced this is due within the next 2 weeks (20 May) but
definitely by the end of May. The balance is due 8 weeks prior to
departure. i.e. by the end of August.
Are you interested? Respond NOW to info@cerocarabia.com
or cerocarabia@gmail.com - we need to know by the end of May.

Sad News about Frankie Manning
You probably wouldn't be dancing Modern Jive/LeRoc/Ceroc today if it
hadn't been for people like Frankie Manning. He was there in the
1930s in Harlem when Lindy Hop was being developed! See http://www.frankie95.com/history.php
and http://www.modernjive.com/history/history2.html
for lots more background information.
Frankie Manning passed away Monday morning, April 27, in New York
surrounded by his family and friends.
Frankie made it clear that if he didn't make it to his birthday
festival, he wanted everyone to celebrate his life rather than mourn
his passing.
At the Frankie 95 Birthday Festival, May 21-25 2009 in New York, they
will be honoring Lindy Hop's greatest ambassador. The Festival
will allow the swing dance community to come together in Frankie's
hometown, the birthplace of Lindy Hop, to grieve, to heal and to
celebrate his life in a way that will pay tribute to this extraordinary
man.
So that anyone who wants to be a part of this momentous occasion should
be allowed the opportunity, they are reopening registration and
encouraging everyone to make the journey to New York City for the
greatest celebration of Frankie and the gift of his life.
