History of Modern Jive
Were you there in the late 1970s and
early 1980s when it all started? Were you involved in spreading it
outside the UK?
We would love to hear from you!
If you have any memories of how
Modern Jive/Ceroc/Le Roc began or spread, please send them to me at john@modernjive.com and I will
publish them at modernjive.com.
Part 1 - "The
History" - from the "Original Le Roc Dance Manual" - by Michel Ange Lau
(written in 1996)
Available at http://www.modernjive.com/history1.html
or you can find it at modernjive.com
by clicking on "Articles" then "History of Modern Jive".

Ceroc in Barcelona, 5-12 August or 9-12 August
2007
There are still places left on the legendary Dance Holidays Barcelona
Ceroc experience now in its
sixth year - don't miss it in 2007!
Ceroc through funky and cosmopolitan
Barcelona! In addition to Ceroc classes, your holiday can include
fantastic nights out Ceroc-ing in hot clubs, tapas bar hopping in local
bars, parties on the beach, opportunities to buy delicious meals in
carefully chosen restaurants with wonderful food and fantastic views,
sunset cocktails, cultural tours and sight seeing, and great social
nights out which will can last all night long if you want to. Live it
up at the champagne tasting and compare the best of Cava which
originates from Catalunya with what France has to offer.
One of the factors that makes the
Ceroc Barcelona experience such a good event is that all in one place
are loads of Cerocers from all over the UK (each year there are about
100 people coming on this trip!) on holiday, letting their hair down,
and there solely for one reason - to dance Ceroc!
Your teachers for the week will be
Marc Forster and Rachel Pears,
and, joining them on August 9th, John
& Karen Sweeney (http://www.modernjive.com/js.html).
With
classes aimed squarely at transcending the boundaries of freestyle,
regardless if you've been in the game for 6 weeks or 6 years, expect to
come away enthused about the world of dance.
Marc, a former club DJ, is one of the
most versatile and best-loved DJs on the Modern Jive scene, so expect
music of the highest calibre as well. Following impromptu sets at
"Chill" and "The Champs", we believe Rachel has what it takes to mix it
up with the very best. Barcelona will be her international debut as a
DJ.
What's included:
- Thorough and
entertaining syllabus in Ceroc
- Beautifully
organised programme of Ceroc freestyle evenings out.
- Charmingly
hosted
by our team on the ground who are experts in Ceroc and in Barcelona.
- Champagne
tasting
session with lots of champagne and the best cava from Catalonia.
- 7 or 3 night's
bed and breakfast accommodation in a comfortable and well located 3
star Hotel
- A well thought
out programme including parties, soirees, restaurants, nights out
dancing as well sight seeing suggestions
- A full
Orientation Pack containing information on where to eat, where to
party, tourist spots, things to do, etc. so you can do your own thing
- A Welcome
complimentary drink on arrival
- A choice of
optional extras related to each individual holiday
