2008 Weekenders, Holidays and Competitions

modernjive.com has just been updated with all the Modern Jive Weekenders, Holidays and Competitions that have been announced so far for 2008 – nearly 50 of them!

Visit England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Barcolona, Granada, Sierra Nevada, the French Alps, Turkey, Malta, Portugal or Wales!

Combine your dancing with sunshine on the Australian Gold Coast, snow sports in the French Alps, cruising in the Mediterranean, scuba diving off the Great Barrier Reef or just relaxing and enjoying the local atmosphere.

There are competitions in Australia, the UK and New Zealand.  Most of them are weekends of dance with workshops and freestyles as well.

All these events are great opportunities to learn from great teachers, make new friends and dance the night away.

If you are planning a holiday in 2008, why not check the list of holidays, weekends and competitions at modernjive.com and see if you can take in some dancing while you are there.

"Swingin' the Blues" is an annual event offering a whole day of Blues & Swing style workshops from some of the very top UK Blues teachers, followed by an evening of Blues & Swing dancing with allegedly the best DJs in the world.

Now in its 8th year 'Swingin' the Blues' is presently the only truly dedicated "Blues" event on the UK dance calendar and attracts a diverse and interesting crowd.

The workshops will start at 11am and run through until 7pm with a break for lunch when we have some suprises in store! The "Swingin' Blues Ball" will kick off from 8pm and run through in three rooms until 12.30am.

12 hours of workshops from Nigel & Nina, Simon & Taina, Dave & Val Rokov.

Check modernjive.com for the rest of the year.

Note to organisers:
Is your event listed at
modernjive.com?  If not, please send me the details as above (with up to 500 characters of description).
(But please check first at
modernjive.com - you may be listed already!)
We do not list individual workshops or freestyles - they are listed well at lots of other sites (see the bottom of this note for a list).
Events in this list are Competitions, Dance Holidays, and major Weekend Events: ones with multiple workshops from multiple teachers, together with an evening dance.

P.S. Rena says if you are into Lindy, please check http://www.jumpnjive.co.uk/ for details of dancing in the sunshine at La Santa Swing 08.

Modern Jive Party Week on the Australian Gold Coast

From Mick French - Le Step - Brisbane:
Queensland is a brilliant place to party! The friendly people, the dancers, the sunshine, the beaches, the theme parks...

So, in 2008 we're planning to have a massive Modern Jive Party Week incorporating our Queensland Dance Camp and biennial "Queensland Open Modern Jive Championship - Dance Spectacular" - as well as a whole swag of other party events!

The
Queensland Dance Camp is a nationally-acclaimed camp that brings Australia's best teachers together over a weekend to inspire and develop the skills of students. And because our Championship event is only held every second year, it has a reputation of attracting the "Who's Who" of Modern Jive.

So, we figured that since you're already paying for one airfare to Queensland, why not combine the two events, add a few extras and encourage you to come to sunny Queensland for a week to ten days? September is a great time for a Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast holiday: the weather's warming up but not too hot, the beaches are great and there are many other attractions to see and things do too. For overseas visitors, Queensland has lots to see (tropical islands in the sun, world-heritage-listed rainforest, whale-watching, scuba-diving on the Great Barrier Reef) and you can get cheap flights to interstate. It's well worth tripping around Queensland if you're coming to Australia for an extended holiday.

If you are interested please fill out the survey at
